The Hoop Fever Rookie Camp Philosophy:
Our philosophy is to generate a positive feeling by developing
a two part plan. First is to EDUCATE our campers on the
verbiage and rules that make the game understandable. Where is the low
post? How about the base line? The foul line extended? What is the elbow?
How do you get back court? What does it mean to travel, and how do you
do it? And palming...what's that? These are the things that basketball
people take for granted;yet our youngsters are guessing many times and
learning on the fly. This can be very frustrating and has turned many
a child away from this fun sport.

Our
staff will take nothing for granted. To get an appreciation for the
game, it is important to understand the lingo as well as how to play.
This leads us to part two of our plan: to TEACH the
game of basketball. Passing, shooting, dribbling and defending will
be the core of the program. To emphasize and reinforce these skills,
we will DRILL every day, we will PLAY everyday and we will COMPETE everyday! Our focus
will be on good form and an appreciation for the team concepts so
important to good basketball. Our desire will be to make camp FUN and INFORMATIVE for all our campers, so that they
will WANT to continue to play basketball both in
school and as a lifetime activity.
Location
Our camp is located on the grounds of Framingham State College, one of the premier schools in the our state college group. The facility features four full courts, which for our program gives us ten game courts in two seperate gyms under the same roof. All the courts are permanant and indoors. The school is conveniently located to Route 9 and the Mass Pike and a really short distance to many towns in the Metro West area.
